How do I start planning a diving trip in Khao Lak with you?
The easiest way is to tell us your dates, experience level, and what you’d like to see. From there, we suggest day trips, liveaboards, or courses that fit, and help you build a simple plan around your holiday.
Can you help me choose between day trips and liveaboards?
Yes. We look at your experience, budget, and how much time you have. Day trips are great if you want flexibility and family time on land. Liveaboards are ideal if you want to maximise dives and wake up right on the sites.
Can you organise everything for my group or family?
We can help with dive planning, equipment, and scheduling for mixed-experience groups. Tell us who is diving, who is learning, and who prefers to stay on land, and we’ll suggest options that keep everyone happy and safe.
Do you arrange equipment rental and servicing for trips?
Yes. We can provide rental gear and also check and service your own equipment before you dive. This means you arrive knowing your kit is safe, comfortable, and ready for the conditions here.
Weather, Seasons and Timing
What are the typical underwater conditions around Khao Lak and the Similans?
You can expect warm water, usually good visibility, and gentle to moderate currents, depending on the site and day. We match sites to your experience so you feel comfortable and can enjoy the scenery, not fight the water.
When is the best time of year to dive the Similan and Surin Islands?
The main Similan and Surin season usually runs from late October to early May. Within that window, conditions can vary, but we’ll always give you honest advice about what to expect for your chosen dates.
How far in advance should I book my diving?
For peak months and liveaboards, it’s wise to book several months ahead to secure your preferred boat and cabin. For day trips and courses, earlier is still better, but we can often find options closer to your travel dates.
Is diving still possible if the weather looks unsettled?
Safety comes first. We monitor forecasts and local conditions closely. If conditions are not suitable, we will adjust plans, choose more sheltered sites, or reschedule where possible, and we’ll explain your options clearly.

How do I book a beginner diving course with you?
You can contact us with your dates and any previous experience. We’ll confirm the right entry-level course, send you a simple plan and price, and help you complete any online learning before you arrive, if needed.
Can I complete theory at home and do the dives in Khao Lak?
In many cases, yes. You can finish the theory online before your trip, then complete the in-water training and certification dives with us here, which saves you time on holiday.
I’m already certified. How do I book an advanced or speciality course?
Tell us your current certification level, number of dives, and what you’d like to improve. We’ll suggest suitable advanced or speciality courses and build them around your travel schedule and preferred dive sites.
Can you combine fun dives with training on the same trip?
Often we can. Many courses include dives that also feel like guided fun dives. We can also plan extra non-course dives before or after your training so you get both learning and relaxed exploration.
Tec and Sidemount Diving
What is technical diving and why would I consider it?
Technical diving goes beyond normal recreational limits, using extra equipment and procedures to safely explore deeper or more demanding environments. It appeals to divers who enjoy planning, precision, and a calm, methodical approach to challenging dives.
What are the main benefits of sidemount diving?
Sidemount can offer better trim and balance, easier access to valves, and more flexible gas management. Many divers also find it more comfortable for their back and shoulders, especially on longer trips or repeated dives.
Is tec or sidemount diving only for “elite” divers?
No. It’s for thoughtful, committed divers who are willing to train carefully and practise skills. We focus on building calm, repeatable habits rather than chasing depth, so you grow into these styles at a pace that feels safe and controlled.
How do you teach tec and sidemount so that I feel safe?
We keep groups small, spend time on land with clear briefings, and build skills step by step in controlled conditions before adding complexity. You’ll always know what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and have time to ask questions.

Who can become a dive professional with Legacy Diving Services?
Divers who enjoy helping others, communicate clearly, and are willing to keep learning make strong professionals. You don’t need to be a “natural athlete”, but you do need solid basic skills, a calm attitude, and a genuine interest in people.
What is the usual path to becoming a Divemaster or Instructor?
Most divers progress through Advanced and Rescue-level training, gain experience, then move into Divemaster and, if they wish, Instructor courses. We can look at your current level and map out a realistic path and timeline with you.
Can I start my professional training during a holiday in Khao Lak?
Yes, you can begin or complete parts of your professional training here, depending on your current level and how much time you have. We’ll be honest about what is realistic in your timeframe and what might need follow-up later.
How do you support new dive professionals after they qualify?
